Here’s a list of travel inspirational movies to motivate and inspire you to visit destinations around the globe. If you have already read our travel inspirational books post, then these films will give you further idea’s of  exceptional locations.   In no particular order, the links below can be built into your future travel plans.

The Beach tells the story of an American, who whilst travelling in Bangkok Thailand, obtains a hand drawn map of a lost island in Southeast Asia. He embarks on a journey with 2 French friends to find the hidden paradise. It’s a fast-paced adventure novel that will take you on a journey in the search for lost continents and island communities.


Into the Wild [DVD] [2007]

Into the Wild is the true story of Chris McCandles who as a young man gave up everything he owned. His  journey takes him into the Alaskan wilderness in a quest for enlightenment  and to live off the land. He camps in an old deserted bus and paid the ultimate price. This movie directed by Sean Penn comes highly recommended, especially if you enjoyed the book.


A Walk In The Woods [DVD] [2015]

A walk in the woods is about Bill Bryson (Robert Redford) who wants to reconnect with his homeland. Impulsively he decides to hike The Appalachian Trail, 1000 arduous miles stretching from Maine to Georgia. His old buddy Katz calls him out of the blue and offers to accompany him on the journey. He gets more than he bargained for as they set out on an expedition that men half their age struggle to complete.


Wild [DVD] [2014]

Wild : Lost and found on the Pacific Crest Trail is the true story of Cheryl Strayed who embarked on the PCT’s 2650 mile trek from Mexico to Canada. Her journey passes through California, Oregon, and Washington with her monster backpack full of supplies to get over her troubled past. The book is a great read of escaping into the wilderness to find ones meaning and a self help alternative therapy of all the outdoors has to offer. This movie will make you you take up backpacking.


Eat, Pray, Love [DVD] [2011]

Eat Pray Love is Elizabeth Gilbert’s memoir of enlightenment and travels. Taking you on a journey from Rome to Naples in Italy, to an ashram in India. She meets a bride-to-be and a remorseful man  who nurture her altruistic side. Her sojourn ends in Bali. While there, she befriends a single mother and a single father  who falls for her charms. Great photography of all the destinations giving you an insight to future travel destinations.


The Way [DVD] (2010)

The Way is about an American doctor who comes to France to collect the remains of his son killed in the Pyrenees  while walking the route known as ‘The Way of Saint James’. The Camino De Santiago.
He embarks on the historical pilgrimage with his son’s backpack and guidebook and begins the 800 km journey. He meets other pilgrims on the way all looking for greater meaning in their lives and was filmed entirely in Spain and France along the actual Camino.


The Secret Life of Walter Mitty [DVD] [2013]

The secret life of Walter Mitty is about James Thurber’s classic story of a day-dreamer. He escapes his anonymous life by disappearing into a world of fantasies filled with heroism, romance and action. Walter takes action in the real world embarking on a global journey when his job and co-workers are threatened, . This turns into an adventure more extraordinary than anything he could have ever imagined. Lovely scenery from all over the world, that you may add to your list of travel destinations.
