Railay beach is nestled between Ao Nang and the town of Krabi in Southern Thailand. Set on a small peninsula, It’s surrounded by limestone cliffs and cut off from the mainland. It’s only accessible from the Andaman Sea by boat. Rai Leh as it’s also known is a big attractions for rock climbers from around the globe.
Getting to Railay
From Krabi Town
If you’re flying into Krabi Airport, you have various options depending on budget. The airport bus is 100 baht into Krabi Town. If you walk outside of the airport you will be able to pickup a songthaew from 30-50 baht that will get you to central Krabi to the 7-11 at the Vogue Mall. A direct taxi to Krabi should be in the region of 350-450 Baht. Head for the river front for accommodation options and some delightful hawker stalls.

The Kong Ka Pier is located on the Pak Nam river, Khongkha Road. From here you can arrange a boat transfer to Railay beach from the pier kiosk, or barter hard with the touts that are very easy to spot if they haven’t already approached you. Their prices vary so do the leg work for a cheap deal, but shouldn’t be no more than 200- 250 Baht. The journey by boat from Krabi is about 30-40 minutes.

From the airport catch the bus to Ao Nang for 150 baht. A taxi from the airport will set you back 500-600 baht. The Water taxi’s are available from the kiosk at Noppharat Thara Beach. They cost 100-150 baht for a return journey that takes around 15 minutes one way.

What awaits your efforts to get this far are all worthwhile as you will experience one of Thailand’s best beach locations. Enjoy that cold one from it’s beach bars and restaurants and enjoy the views. Staying for a few days or an overnight stay will be top of your agenda..

Boats to Phuket, the Phi Phi islands and Koh Lanta can all be arranged whilst in the area, with plenty of agents scattered around. Visit a few to get a rough price and barter hard, as all prices are negotiable so don’t takethe first offer. flights from Krabi to Phuket, Koh Samui and Bangkok can be had for very little, so check out Air Asia for connecting flights.
